This study investigated the leadership competencies required for effective integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in North-Central Nigeria and identified strategies for strengthening these competencies. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study, the latter testing differences in the mean responses of administrators, instructors, and ICT support staff at the 0.05 significance level. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was adopted, covering a census population of 130 respondents (45 administrators, 60 instructors, and 25 ICT support staff). A validated 14-item questionnaire, with a reliability coefficient of 0.89, was used for data collection; 124 copies (95%) were retrieved and analysed using means, standard deviations, and one-way ANOVA. Results showed that digital literacy, strategic planning, mentorship and capacity building, innovation, monitoring and evaluation, resource mobilization, and industry collaboration were all required competencies for effective AI integration, and that continuous digital skills training, AI policy formulation, mentorship, industry collaboration, incentives, AI innovation committees, and adequate digital infrastructure were all endorsed as effective strengthening strategies. ANOVA results showed no significant difference across the three respondent groups on either research question. The study recommends that institutional heads implement targeted leadership development programmes, formulate clear AI policies, provide digital infrastructure, and foster industry collaboration to ensure effective and sustainable AI integration.
